MINDset Psychological Center offers a comprehensive and unique treatment strategy for our clients. We believe that an accurate diagnosis is vital to achieving lasting change. In keeping with this philosophy, MINDset’s experienced psychologists work with each of our client to take a detailed history, to develop a custom tailored assessment package to assist with an accurate diagnosis, and work with our clients to develop a manageable and detailed treatment plan so our clients can have a clear direction towards their desired treatment goals.
Whether it is marriage difficulties, depression, or learning difficulties, starting with a detailed assessment that helps to bring to light all the factors that are impacting our client’s progress and an accurate diagnosis are the first steps towards lasting change. Why is having an accurate diagnosis so important? Here are just a few reasons:
- LA study by the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association (DMDA) found that 69 percent of patients with bipolar disorder are misdiagnosed initially and more than one-third remained misdiagnosed for 10 years or more.
- While as much as 11% of Americans over the age of 12 are taking some form of antidepressants, a recent study by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that over 60% of those who were diagnosed with depression did not meet the criteria for a depressive disorder.
- According to a Michigan State study, as many as 11% of kids ages 4-17 are misdiagnosed with ADHD and 50% of children with learning disorders have inattentiveness.
The next step in helping our clients’ work towards their desired goal is by developing a comprehensive and solution-focused treatment plan in each assessment report we provide our clients. As Lao Tzu said, “If you don’t change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” With a detailed treatment plan we tailor for each client, we help our clients take charge of their direction and help them to find manageable short-term and long term plans for heading towards their desired destination.
